Rocce Rosse Blues Festival

One of Italy's most important blues and jazz festivals, the Rocce Rosse Blues Festival takes place every summer in Arbatax with open-air concerts that use the port quays and the natural backdrop of the porphyry rocks as their stage set. Since its founding in the 1990s it has hosted international legends such as B.B. King, Al Di Meola and John Mayall. Admission is often free or pay-what-you-wish, and concerts take place at sunset and after dark, creating an unforgettable atmosphere between the sound of the sea and the music.

Feast of San Gemiliano

The patronal feast of Tortolì honours San Gemiliano with a solemn horseback procession that winds from the country church to the town. Riders in traditional Sardinian dress accompany the statue of the saint amid liturgical chants and the sound of launeddas. The day concludes with a communal outdoor lunch at which the typical dishes of Ogliastra are served: culurgiones, roast suckling pig and seadas with bitter honey.

Arbatax Fish Festival

The Arbatax fish festival celebrates the port's seafaring tradition with tastings of oily fish, lobster and shellfish caught in the Gulf of Orosei and the southern Tyrrhenian Sea. The quays come alive with stalls selling local produce, performances of costumed dances and live music. It is an opportunity to discover the Ogliastra coastal cuisine, less well known than the pastoral cooking of the interior but equally authentic.

Ogliastra Craft Market

Every summer weekend the waterfront at Porto Frailis hosts the Ogliastra craft market, with exhibitors from across the territory: basket weavers from Arzana, ceramicists from Jerzu, weavers from Gairo and woodcarvers from Talana. It is one of the few contexts where it is possible to buy authentic handmade goods directly from the makers, learning their techniques and their stories.
