The ideal season for trekking and hiking. The Supramonte trails are at their most beautiful, with wild orchid blooms and fragrant Mediterranean scrub. Few crowds, lower prices.
Tip: Perfect timing for the Selvaggio Blu and the Gorropu Gorge.
Crystal-clear sea and very long days. Ogliastra's beaches are at their finest: Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, Cala Luna. July and August are the busiest and most expensive months.
Tip: Book accommodation well in advance. June and September offer perfect sea with fewer crowds.
The season of flavours: Cannonau grape harvest, Cortes Apertas, chestnuts and mushrooms. Ogliastra's woodlands turn gold and red. September is still good for swimming; October is perfect for the interior.

Nearest airports: Cagliari (CAG, 150 km), Olbia (OLB, 200 km). Port of Arbatax for ferries from Civitavecchia and Genova.
A car is essential for exploring Ogliastra. Inland roads are winding but scenic. Car hire available in Arbatax and Tortolì.
