Download the map of the Baunei coast and discover the complete guide to the beaches of Ogliastra: hiking trails, boat departures, and useful tips.

The Baunei coast, located in the Gulf of Orosei in Ogliastra, is one of the most spectacular and untouched coastal stretches of the Mediterranean. With over 40 kilometers of limestone cliffs dropping vertically into the sea, marine caves, and paradise coves, this area attracts sea lovers, hikers, and adventure seekers every year. In this guide, we provide the complete map of the Baunei coast with practical information to explore it.

Overview of the Baunei Coast Map

The coast extends from Santa Maria Navarrese in the south to Cala Luna in the north. The most famous coves, from south to north, are:
1. Cala Goloritzé: Famous for the 143-meter-high stone spire and the rock arch over the sea. A Natural Monument accessible only on foot or by non-motorized boats.
2. Cala dei Gabbiani: Sister beach of Cala Mariolu, made of small polished white pebbles.
3. Cala Mariolu: Often voted the most beautiful beach in Italy for its "rice grain" pebbles and turquoise waters.
4. Cala Birìola: A delightful cove protected by a cliff covered with a forest of holm oaks and junipers.
5. Cala Sisine: A wide beach located at the mouth of a spectacular codula (limestone canyon).
6. Cala Luna: The northernmost beach of the Baunei coast, famous for its huge natural caves on the shore.

How to Get Around: Routes and Connections

To explore the Baunei coast, there are two main options: by sea or by land through the Supramonte trails.

Connections by Sea Most tourists choose to visit the coast by boat. Daily departures of tourist boats and dinghy rentals (even without a license) are available from: - Port of Arbatax (Tortolì) - Marina of Santa Maria Navarrese (Baunei) - Port of Cala Gonone (Dorgali)

Line boats offer mini-cruises with 1-2 hour stops at the main coves, while renting a dinghy guarantees maximum freedom in schedules and itineraries.

Land Trails (Hiking) For outdoor lovers, the Baunei coast is crossed by spectacular but demanding trails. The main hikes all start from the Golgo Plateau (reachable by car from Baunei): - Trail to Cala Goloritzé: Elevation change of 470 meters, about 1.5 hours for the descent. Requires the payment of an ecological access ticket. - Trail to Cala Mariolu (from Piredda): A path for experienced hikers (EE) with juniper ladders. About 2.5 hours. - Trail to Cala Sisine (from Planu 'e Murta): The simplest trek on the coast, suitable also for less experienced hikers. About 45 minutes.
